Piano Recital

Torsten’s annual Piano Recital at Cass Winery is always a highlight of our season. Combining stories and anecdotes of the composers and their music with brilliant pianistic skill will entertain and enlighten.

Beethoven's Triple

Presenting Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with an All-star cast of soloists paired with Mozart’s “Haffner” Symphony, No. 35, and Mendelssohn’s Scherzo from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Drumroll Please

Presenting a selection of compositions featuring the many instruments of the percussion section and starring John Astaire, percussionist. Works by Haydn, Rossini, Milhaud, and a World Premiere by Mary Bianco. Featuring: John Astaire, percussionist

Septet Octet

These two works combine winds and strings in a genre created by Beethoven. His popular Septet inspired Schubert to create a work bursting with melodic beauty and dramatic tension.

Quintets

Two of the giants of chamber music are presented in this program, Beethoven and Brahms. The third “B” on the program is local composer Mary L. Bianco, who was commissioned to compose a work for strings and clarinet.

911 Tribute

Classic Collaboration

A Classic Collaboration of the Arts. The event will be held in the beautiful Piazza courtyard of the new Italianate Resort designed in the master ITALIAN RENAISSANCE STYLE with dramatic gardens, fountains and important art collections.

Piano Recital

Torsten Juul-Borre is known for his ability to captivate the listener from the first bars to the finale. Torsten shares insights into the music with anecdotes and historical contexts. This promises a rewarding afternoon for all!

The Paderewski Connection

Local and international students with arrangements of folk songs for piano and orchestra. Daniel Ha and Kannan Freyaldenhoven, Sasha Dzvinkovskiy and Yulia Medynska from Ukraine, and Magdalena Kuropatwa from Poland.

Hilary & Dmitriy

An outstanding new duo will perform some of the greatest chamber music composed for cello and piano Cellist Hilary Clark and pianist Dmitriy Cogan perform sonatas by Beethoven, Brahms, and Franck.

Trio & Company

The Trio is and event to savor. They are joined by friends to perform the popular “Trout” Quintet by Schubert and a favorite by Faure.

Russian Cello Senatas

Support Symphony of the Vines while you enjoy Cellist Hilary Clark and Pianist Brigitte Armenier perform three compelling Russian sonatas. Works by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Rachmaninoff. Come early to savor the culinary creations of Chef Jacob and enjoy the delicious wines and stunning beauty of CASS Vineyard & Winery.

A Hunting We Will Go

Join Symphony of the Vines as we go into the forest with sounds of hunting horns and dogs. Music by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Honegger.

The Trio

TORSTEN JUUL-BORRE, PIANO, HILARY CLARK, CELLO, AND EMILY LANZONE, VIOLIN
The trio performs piano trios by Beethoven and Shostakovich. Hilary Clark performs Bach’s most challenging Suite for Unaccompanied Cello No. 6.

Music of England and Scandinavia

Local favorite Canzona Women’s Ensemble will again join the Symphony of the Vines in a performance that will be the highlight of our season. Featuring music from two regions with the finest of early 20th century compositions.

Child Prodigy Tour de Force

Mozart, Mendelssohn and Boccherini. Featured soloist Jeanne Shumway will perform the tuneful Cello Concerto by Luigi Boccherini. First, the String Symphony No. 5 by Mendelssohn composed when he was a teenager. Next we will scale down to one on a part for a charming Divertimento by Mozart. The program is crowned with an early symphony by Mozart.

Impressionistic Gems

Wade into the cool, shimmering sounds of French Impressionism and be rejuvenated with a youthful, exuberant symphony by Franz Schubert. Marvel at the beauty and skill of playing by our featured soloists Suzanne Duffy, flute, and Amber Burdick, harp. Music by Ravel, Delius, Hue and Schubert.

Cass Winery Recital

Wade into the cool, shimmering sounds of French Impressionism and be rejuvenated with a youthful, exuberant symphony by Franz Schubert. Marvel at the beauty and skill of playing by our featured soloists Suzanne Duffy, flute, and Amber Burdick, harp. Music by Ravel, Delius, Hue and Schubert.

Viennese Celebration

We are excited to present the young Chinese pianist, Heqing Huang, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Beethoven used the piano concertos to show off his skills and introduce himself to the Viennese public. Also in this program is a symphony filled with drama and humor, composed for Haydn’s first trip to London. We open the program with a charming overture by Rossini.

Enjoy an afteroon of music, wine, and hors d’oevres with featured pianist Heqing Huang at the Ritter Estate in San Luis Obispo.

J.S. Bach and Sons

The works of J. S. Bach mark the pinacle of the baroque style, reaching spiritual heights rarely equaled. Second eldest son, Carl Philip Emanuel, applied the principals of rhetoric and drama to musical structure. Youngest son Johann Christian was a leading composer in London. Be inspired by the variety, splendor and brilliance of the Bach family in the timeless beauty of the Mission San Miguel.

Enjoy the music of CAFÉ MUSIQUE with Brynn Albanaze while you sample world class Halter Ranch wines and savor a delicious array of hors d’oeuvres.

Choral Celebration in the Mission

Celebrate the historic beauty and acoustics of Mission San Miguel as Symphony of the Vines collaborates with two local choral groups. Canzona, a female choral ensemble, will perform works by female American composers. Also joining The Vines will be the Cuesta North County Chorus. Under the direction of Cassandra Tarantino, the group has established an important niche in the North County for excellent choral performance.

The Philosopher

Symphony of the Vines is proud to feature new Concertmaster, Brynn Albanese, with violist Peter Jandula-Hudson, performing Mozart’s beautiful Sinfonia Concertante. Joseph Haydn, revered as the “Father of the Symphony,” was also a friend and chamber music partner with Mozart.

Celebrating Centennials

Celebrate Atascadero’s Centennial with Symphony of the Vines. Atascadero native, Darin Alvord, wrote “Of Time’s Many Waters” celebrating Atascadero through the decades. This world premier performance will be a highlight of the year-long centennial celebrations.

Atascadero Centennial

Atascadero High School alumnus Darin Alvord composed a symphony in celebration of Atascadero’s 100th birthday. “Of Time ís Many Waters” is a 24-minute musical walk through the founding and evolution of the City of Atascadero, featuring 15 different themes corresponding with different historic eras.

Celebrating American Song

Music based on our rich history of songs and features baritone Dan Gibbs. The All-American program includes the well known “Appalachian Spring” by Aaron Copland in its original 13 instruments version. Also on the program is Charles Ives’ fascinating portrayal of “Three Places in New England” that contains musical references to the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and a 4th of July celebration. Baritone Dan Gibbs joins the orchestra for Ives’ “Charlie Rutlage”.

Mozart and Marek

Accorded highest accolades by the world press, Marek Żebrowski has appeared as soloist in recital and with symphony orchestras throughout the world. He has recorded works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Scriabin and Prokofiev.

Cass Winery

Torsten Juul-Borre is an active concert artist in Europe and the United States. His musical talent has earned him various coveted honors. Music is the language of the soul, able to reflect every nuance of life’s experiences

9/11 Memorial Concert

Commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks featuring Mozart’s profound Requiem and Barber’s stirring Adagio for Strings performed at Mission San Miguel and the Templeton Performing Arts Center. Joined by Cuesta Master Chorale, North County Chorus, and soloists for one of the most stirring concerts ever.
