Student Spotlight and Educational Outreach
Student Spotlight is a program that connects advanced music students with professional musicians in our Off-the-Vines Chamber Music Series.
Symphony of the Vines is partnering with the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education (SLOCOE) Arts Collaborative, which includes artists, art educators and arts supporters committed to sustaining and growing arts education in San Luis Obispo County. Symphony of the Vines Student Spotlight is a program that gives advanced local music students an opportunity to rise to the challenge of presenting a solo performance. Each student works with Symphony of the Vines professional musicians and presents their solo performance in a professional venue at an Off-The-Vines chamber music concert.
“Performance opportunities like these are hard to come by, but are very valuable learning experiences for those needing to bridge the gap between being a student and becoming a professional. It also gives the budding musician a chance to preview the professional arena: intense rehearsals, many hours of practicing, as well as a little dose of healthy pressure but without a competitive environment.”

Student Spotlight is a collaborative program with the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education –
“The San Luis Obispo County Office of Education strives to promote the arts by facilitating opportunities for local students to work alongside professional artists in professional settings.”
Student Spotlight participants receive:
• Rehearsals with their instructor
• Rehearsals and mentoring with SOV musicians
• Opportunity to perform in a professional venue
• Professional videotape of their performance
• Family tickets to the concert
Joseph Galicinao
Joseph Galicinao from Pioneer High School was our Student Spotlight performer on our Clarinet Quintet concert at The Monarch Club at Trilogy in Nipomo (February 2020). Joseph has been playing the French horn for about 5 years. Besides being on the track & field team, he is the drum major and enjoys leading the band during field shows and parades.
Albert Zhang
Albert Zhang, pianist, was our Student Spotlight during “Piano Recital with Torsten Juul-Borre” at Grace Bible Church, Arroyo Grande, and Cass Winery, Paso Robles in November 2019.
Eva Moylan
Evalynn Moylan, cellist, was the Student Spotlight during our “Romantic Cello concerts” in October, 2019.
